You don’t see this every day—a full-length truck weighbridge installed in the middle of a tunnel. In one of the most unique and technically challenging infrastructure deployments in Sydney, NWI Weighbridges has successfully completed the installation of a Centurion Steel Deck Weighbridge deep within the Acciona-led Rozelle Interchange tunnel project, part of the broader WestConnex initiative.

Breaking New Ground—Underground

This wasn’t just another weighbridge install. Set in a tight and low-clearance tunnel environment, the project demanded innovation, and of course – a commitment to safety. Led by NWI’s experienced NSW Service team—Kevin Holland, Lim Ebona, and Ian Mandap—the installation was completed with minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.

Thanks to NWI’s Centurion Steel Deck design, the team was able to overcome the spatial challenges of the tunnel’s narrow configuration. The low-profile deck and modular design were ideal for the site, allowing for rapid deployment without compromising accuracy or strength.

More than just hardware, the weighbridge is part of a fully automated and unmanned system that ensures seamless operation while adhering to Chain of Responsibility (CoR) mass management regulations. Trucks are now weighed for both gross mass and group axle weights, helping to ensure legal compliance before they leave the spoil site.

From this portal, the West Harbour Tunnel (WHT) team can:
