Project Scope: To design, implement, and calibrate an unmanned, high-capacity (80 tonnes) Centurion Track steel deck weighbridge for Chain of Responsibility compliance.
Overview
NWI Group, a prominent provider of advanced weighing solutions, had the opportunity to collaborate with one of Australia’s largest transport and logistics providers. The project aimed to address the critical issue of ensuring Chain of Responsibility (COR) compliance by accurately measuring and monitoring truck group axle weights and total gross weight simultaneously. The need for this solution was paramount, as overloaded lorries leaving the transport depot posed a significant risk to both road safety and COR adherence.
Project Objectives:
The primary objectives of the project were as follows:
- Implement an unmanned weighbridge system capable of accurately measuring truck group axle weights and total gross weight simultaneously.
- Ensure Chain of Responsibility compliance by providing accurate weight data to monitor and limit the risk of overloaded trucks.
- Accommodate various truck lengths with a high-capacity weighbridge of up to 80 tonnes.
Solutions
NWI Group conducted a comprehensive assessment of the project’s requirements and recommended the installation of a 25-meter long Centurion Track steel deck weighbridge.
This solution was chosen for its numerous advantages:
Portable Nature: The Centurion Track steel deck weighbridge’s portability allowed it to be easily installed on an existing concrete surface. This eliminated the need for extensive civil foundation preparation, reducing both installation time and costs.
Robust Construction: The weighbridge was constructed with a focus on durability and reliability, ensuring many years of accurate and consistent weighing performance. It featured orthotropic ribs and high-precision load cells to maintain its accuracy over time.
High Capacity: With a high-capacity weighbridge of 80 tonnes, it could accommodate various truck lengths, making it a versatile solution for the transport provider’s diverse fleet.
Implementation: The installation of the Centurion Track steel deck weighbridge was carried out efficiently and without the need for extensive construction work. NWI Group’s experts worked closely with the client to ensure the weighbridge was positioned correctly and calibrated accurately.

Outcome
Upon the successful implementation of the weighbridge solution, the transport and logistics provider experienced several benefits:
Accurate and Simultaneous Weighing: The weighbridge’s multiple independent weighing modules allowed for the precise measurement of each axle group’s weight while simultaneously calculating the vehicle’s total gross weight. This ensured that all relevant weight data was available in real-time.
Chain of Responsibility Compliance: The accurate weight data provided by the weighbridge played a crucial role in helping the client meet Chain of Responsibility compliance standards. It allowed them to monitor and limit the risk of overloaded trucks leaving the depot, thereby enhancing road safety and reducing potential legal liabilities.
Streamlined Implementation: The portable nature of the Centurion Track steel deck weighbridge, along with its minimal civil foundation requirements, led to a streamlined implementation process that minimised costs and downtime.
